Homemade Eggnog

Homemade Eggnog is so easy to make with just a few ingredients and it's even better than any store bought version! Make your holiday extra special with this festive drink!

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ground nutmeg plus more for serving
  • 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  • Beat egg yolks and sugar in a large bowl, until thick and pale yellow using an electric mixer or whisk by hand.
  • In a large pan add milk, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla over medium heat and bring to a low boil, stirring occasionally.  
  • Remove from heat and slowly pour a small amount of milk mixture at a time into eggs, whisking until each addition is combined.
  • Return mixture to the pan and cook over low heat until thickened and reaches 160° using a digital thermometer or coats the back of a spoon.
  • Chill for 2 hours or completely cooled.
  • Serve with additional grated nutmeg.

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3- 4 days.
  • Make it Boozy: Add 8 ounces of light rum, spiced rum or bourbon with the heavy whipping cream.
  • Large Batch: Double the recipe if you are hosting a crowd.
  • More Garnish Ideas: Serve with sweetened whipped cream if desired.
  • Make it Sugar Free: Substitute monkfruit sweetener for sugar.
