- 1 cup butter soften
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs large
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup pecans toasted and chopped
- ½ teaspoon flake sea salt optional for garnish
Cream butter until smooth in a large mixer bowl.
Add brown sugar and granulated sugar and mix for 2 minutes at medium speed.
Add eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.
Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix well.
Add chocolate chips and chopped pecans, mixing at low speed for 1 minute.
Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
Press chocolate chip cookie dough into the bottom of the pan in an even layer.
Drizzle caramel sauce over the top and swirl with a butter knife, cutting the caramel into the top of the cookie dough.
Bake for 45 minutes to 55 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from oven to a wire rack. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes if desired.
Cool completely before slicing into squares.
Storage: Store cookie bars in an airtight container or covered in plastic wrap at room temperature up to 5 days. Freeze up to 3 months.
Variations: Use any flavor of chips for this recipe that you have on hand or a combination of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, caramel chips or peanut butter chips.
