Ingredients for Knorr Spinach Dip Recipe

  • Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix – Find this delicious seasoning packet in the grocery store near the soup mixes and seasonings. It is sometimes labeled as Vegetable Soup Mix. The Leek Recipe Mix also works great for a dip. 
  • Mayonnaise – I really like Duke’s Mayonnaise, use your favorite brand. I do think the full fat version makes the best dip. 
  • Sour Cream adds creamy flavor and balances out the mayo. Substitute greek yogurt if desired.
  • Frozen Spinach or use a pound of fresh spinach.
  • Water Chestnuts add a crunchy texture to the dip. Find them near in the Asian section of the grocery store. 
  • Green Onions adds fresh flavor to the dip. 

How to Make Spinach Dip

  1. Combine sour cream, mayonnaise and Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cook frozen spinach according to package directions. Squeeze out excess water and add to the mixing bowl with the mayo mixture.
  3. Drain and dice water chestnuts and slice green onions and add to the mayo mixture.

  1. Mix it all together really well, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

Variations for Creamy Spinach Dip

  • Spice it up with chopped candied jalapenos or red pepper flakes. 
  • Shred some Parmesan cheese and mix it in. 
  • Stir in chopped and drained artichoke hearts for spinach artichoke dip.

Serving Suggestions for Easy Spinach Dip

  • Serve spinach dip in a bread bowl. Cut off about 1/4 inch of the top of an Italian loaf, sourdough bread or homemade bread bowl. Cut out the center, leaving the bread shell. Cut the insides into cubes. Spoon dip into the bread bowl and serve with bread cubes.
  • Most often we serve spinach dip with Ritz Chips or tortilla chips, it will work with any of your favorite dippers.
  • Fresh vegetables like sliced cucumbers, celery, bell pepper strips, broccoli florets and carrot sticks go great with cold spinach dip.
  • Although we make this all year long, it is a must-have for every holiday and summer cookouts. We love to pile it on grilled burgers. Don’t knock it until you try it!

How Long Will Cold Spinach Dip Recipe Last?

Store spinach dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days. Stir before serving.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 package Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix
  • 10 oz frozen spinach or 16 ounces fresh spinach
  • 8 oz can water chestnuts drained and chopped
  • 3 green onions chopped

  1. I bought all the ingredients and going to try to get a game of chicken foot this weekend, I think it’s going to be a big hit with everyone. And worms that are dried,you can get them at Atwood’s,they will follow you any where. Chicken,s are so fun there so smart. Oh thanks fo the recipe.

  2. I prefer Knorr leek soup mix in my spinach dip. I’ve tried both and still prefer the leek over the vegetable. Give it a try.

  3. Have you ever tried plain Greek yogurt substituted for the sour cream? Just wondering if it will taste same or if it will mess up the texture or flavor.

      1. I subbed part of the sour cream for Greek yogurt and it was fine. I also made a nice mixture of small chopped veggies (purple onion, carrot, broccoli, red bell pepper, etc.) to sub for the water chestnuts.

  4. Could I use fresh spinach? Maybe steam it then use as the recipe requires. I have some fresh that I’m trying to get rid of before it goes bad.

    1. I always use fresh spinach -I chiffonade the spinach after I trim some of the stems off-just the long ones-no one has all day to do that! It softens just fine in the creamy mixture!

    2. Yes, I use fresh spinach. I don’t l cook it or steam it. I just chop it up and use that instead of frozen drained spinach. It keeps it from being watery.

  5. Do I have to cook the spinach?
    If I do have to cook it, how does one cook spinach? I’ve never done that before. Thank you

    1. Hi Tyra,
      I usually use frozen spinach and just thaw it out and make sure to squeeze out the liquid. My mother insists that you should heat the spinach first and she just puts the frozen package in the microwave for a few minutes. If you are worried about eating it raw, toss it in the microwave or add it to a pan of boiling water for about 3- 4 minutes, drain well and then let it cool enough that you can squeeze out the excess water. I hope that helps!

      1. Is there anyway I could send this through the mail. Granddaughter loves this spinach dip.. I make it always for her. This year I’m in the same state as her. That’s why I was wondering about mailing frozen spinach dip.

    2. I don’t cook the frozen spinach, just thaw, squeeze out as much water as possible, then stir into all the other ingredients…and you’re done. 😊

      I don’t think it would freeze well and it’s best if eaten within a couple of days so I’m not sure about trying to mail it.

  6. I haven’t made Knott Spinach Dip for years. My husband & I entertained often in the summer using the big brick barbecue that was one reason we wanted to buy the house! And that dip with fresh dipping veggies was a cool opposite to John’s spicy barbecue! But once he passed & the house was sold,$, people began inviting me to their parties.
    Several friends are coming by to my new home tomorrow as we’ve all just been tested for Covid & passed. So we’re taking advantage of getting together now before we are not as sure! What a time.
    Anyway, the Spinach Dip was a MUST & I’m thinking of making the dip now, the night before. I don’t recall; will it be better for the extra hours or less flavorful?

      It is great to make ahead the night before. My kids have trouble waiting on it to chill but it’s best if it has refrigerated at least a few hours before serving. Enjoy your visit!

  7. Should the frozen spinach be chopped or leave as is. In your photo it looks like it’s been chopped.

  8. I’ve been making this for 30+ years. Over time, I’ve made it mine. I don’t add the water chestnuts or green onions (I might start adding them to the top).
    Although I don’t want to give my secrets away, I will as I don’t think anyone will see or try it.
    I do the the normal with the Knorr soup mix, sour cream and mayo. I add more mayo. I add; lemon juice, 1/2 -whole lemon depending on the juice. I also add a clove or two of grated garlic, droed dill and my secret, bleu cheese crumbles. Yep. People who don’t like bleu cheese will love this dip and if they don’t? It’s more for yoy.
    A bread reound. Cut off the top and make a bowl. Pull out the bread and make bite size pieces, set aside. You can load the dip from there or get creative as I have.
    It’s good on bread as well as others suggested.

  9. My family loves Knorr spinach dip. My secret ingredient add-in is a small can of crushed pineapple, drained. We serve with club crackers or chips n a Hawaiian bread bowl.

    I don’t cook my spinach.Also I add extra green onions but I love onions so does my family a friends ! I gives it a fresher flavor. Occasionally I’ll add artichokes if I have them or think about it

    A great dip, great product—-BUT a bad choice to have rapper Ludacris as your “Knorr representative” here. With rap efforts like “Move, Bitch” , “Pimping All Over the World”, etc, your company is giving the middle finger to women.

  12. Love this version, have been making it for years, however, there appears to be a typo on the amount of water chestnuts used. Not sure they have 18 oz cans, I use the 6 oz and it’s perfect, otherwise spot on 😉 Thank you for sharing!

      Thank you so much for letting me know. It was an error from switching to a different recipe card format. It originally was 1 8 ounce can and it changed it to 18 ounce can. I have it fixed now. It is our favorite dip for every occasion.

    My mom used to make this spinach dip all the time at parties.

    I couldn’t find Vegetable Soup mix, but I always have Vegeta in my pantry and used it instead.

    I also did 2 green onions and a half a red onion – I prefer the extra kick.

    I use a food processor to chop all the vegetables together, then add in the mayo, sour cream, and seasonings. Pulse a couple times, then add the spinach. This way all the pieces are very small and blended well together.

    So delicious!!
