Fried Cabbage
Fried Cabbage with crispy bacon and onions is a great side dish for any meal. This easy vegetable dish comes together in under 30 minutes and it’s made with just 4 ingredients! It’s pure comfort food and goes with just about any dinner.
Fried cabbage is super easy to make and this recipe takes a shortcut to make it even easier. I keep slaw mix on hand for creamy coleslaw and it’s just the ticket for making fried cabbage. It cuts the prep time down to just slicing an onion.

How to Make Fried Cabbage:
- Cut bacon into slices and fry in a skillet until crispy. Remove bacon to a paper towel to drain and set aside.
- Add 2 tablespoons of butter into the skillet with the bacon grease. When butter has melted, add onions.
- Stir in slaw mix and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook, stirring often until onions and cabbage are softened and just start to caramelize.
- Stir in bacon and serve immediately.
A whole head of cabbage, shredded can be used in place of the slaw mix. Add in a shredded carrot too if you like.
Fried cabbage is best served immediately.
How to Store and Reheat:
Store leftovers in an airtight container up to 2 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in a skillet with 1/2 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Stir continuously until heated through.

Ingredients
- 3 slices thick cut bacon
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion sliced thin
- 14 oz slaw mix shredded cabbage and carrots
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground pepper
